Your Advanced UPRT training will need to be carried out with an Air Training Organisation (ATO) which holds the respective approval for the type of licence you require. Wings Alliance works with a network of ATOs who specialise in Advanced UPRT and hold single and multi approvals for either or both the UK CAA or EASA.
Advanced UPRT course objectives include:
- To understand how to cope with the physiological and psychological aspects of dynamic upsets in aeroplanes
- To develop the necessary competence and resilience to be able to apply appropriate recovery techniques during upsets
- The recovery techniques used during the course will where possible, be compatible with techniques typically used for transport category aeroplanes
Pre-entry requirements:
There are no pre-entry or licensing requirements to commence this course.
We would recommend you complete this course after your Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL) course, as the Advanced UPRT is the prerequisite for the Airline Pilot Standards Multi Crew Cooperation (APS MCC) course.
Course outline:
There is no difference between the UK CAA or EASA Advanced UPRT certificates. The course involves 3 days of training typically compromising of:
- At least 3 hours of flight instruction with a qualified instructor on an appropriate training aircraft
- At least 5 hours of theoretical instruction
- Pre-flight briefings and debriefings
Flight instruction content:
- Understanding speed, attitude and angle of attack relationships
- The effect of g-load on aeroplane performance, including stall events at different attitudes and airspeeds
- Aerodynamic indications of a stall including buffeting, loss of control authority, and inability to arrest a descent
- The physiological effects of different g-loads between -1 and 2.5G and the surprise of the startle effect
- Training in techniques to recover from:
- Stall events
- Incipient spinning
- Spiral dives
- Nose high at different bank angles
- Nose low at different bank angles
- Training to develop resilience and to be able to employ mitigation strategies of the startle effect.

UK CAA Advanced UPRT course
Wings Alliance works very closely with UK CAA and also some dual approved (EASA and UK CAA) training providers for Advanced UPRT. These providers are British Aerobatic Academy, located at Fowlmere Airfield, near Cambridge, Ultimate High, located at Goodwood Aerodrome, West Sussex, Ravenair, located at John Lennon Airport, Liverpool, and Flight Performance Training located at Brighton City Airport. British Aerobatic Academy (BAA)
BAA have a fleet of high-quality aircraft and expert instructors. We teach approximately 1,000 Adv UPRT courses a year and are one of the few schools that has a reasonable expectation of their students returning for more courses such as Aerobatics or FI.
What does the course include?
- 5 hours of theoretical knowledge instruction
- Pre-flight briefings and post-flight debriefings
- 3 hours of dual flight instruction with a suitably qualified flight instructor
On completion of the UPRT course, applicants will be issued with a certificate of course completion by the British Aerobatic Academy.
Cost
The BAA Adv UPRT course is priced at £1,565 for UK CAA and £300 more for both EASA and CAA, or just EASA. As a Wings Alliance member, this price will be discounted by £100 when booked through the Wings Alliance. Please contact us for further information.

What does the course include?
- 3 flights conducted in a T67M260 Slingsby Firefly over 2-3 days.
- 5 hours of Theoretical Knowledge Instruction
Courses normally take place Monday-Tuesday/Wednesday, continuing into Thursday if necessary. Courses take place most weeks all year round with up to 6 students at a time.

Ravenair
Created by an easyJet A320 Training Captain, the course is designed using current Airbus upset prevention techniques.
The choice of aircraft means that you can experience the effects of startle and high-energy manoeuvres in our Extra 200, as well as practising the multi-crew elements in our complex Piper Arrow with full EFIS.
What does the course include?
- 3 hours flying training:
- 2 hours in our Extra 200
- 1 hour in our Piper Arrow
- 5 hours ground school training
